James over at 10engines reminded me of one of my fondest memories, making a minnow run with my uncle Jim in the UP of Michigan. My uncle is the very definition of thrift but always manages to look the part and do what he likes in life (what more could you ask for) so we definitely weren’t using the Orvis 150th minnow trap shown here. Most likely it was a hand blown number by someone in the UP for which my uncle traded out a few UP Brookies.
Although a professional fly-cast instructor for Fenwick, he is a master in little streams spin casting with a minnow rig. We’d go get the minnows the night before, then in the morning load up the wade bucket around our necks and head out to the Paint River.
Uncle Jim’s staple wardrobe for all outings shown above. Mostly mostly accurate, some high end filler, tortoise aviators, LL Bean Chamois, Hanes v-neck, braided belt, 501′s, ragg wool socks, pennies, wade bucket, Swishers, glass minnow trap.
