Off the Hanger: Red Desert

Red Desert Hunting

Opening week for antelope hunting in Wyoming’s Red Desert. Lots of driving, crawling through cactus and intently looking at antelope shaped piles of dirt in the binocs.

Pack – Dad’s hunting pack, tried to convince him to get rid of it many times, glad he never listened

Knife – Wyoming Knife with leather case
Knee Pads – Anti-Cactus prevention
Binocs – Nikon 7261
Shooting Sticks – Stoney Point Steady Stix
Rifle – Winchester Model 70

    Did you get anything or was it too hot? The warm temps make it difficult to keep meat from spoiling before you get it to refrigeration.

    No, actually we didn’t. Turned out we pulled a tough area, very little terrain so there was quite a bit of watching animals running off in the distance. Good to get out regardless though . . .
