The fashion industry’s newfound love for all things Hawaiian shirts got me thinking about the master of that genre, Magnum. I also found this site that is basically the Magnum style bible. Sure, there were some definite styling faux pas in the series but overall the character had great classic looks. Rugbys, 501s, Outdoorsman specs, and of course a heavy infusion of military pieces. Go ahead and embrace your Ferrari driving inner private eye.

Pretty revolutionary show for its day and the styling of Bruce Weitz character on Hill Street Blues set the stage for the plain clothes hardcore TV cop image.

It’s very likely Martin Yan could be the sole source of my lifelong obsession with Asian food (furthered more recently hanging with my friend Jeff). Back when I first started watching Yan Can Cook, he was one of only a handful of Master Chefs on the planet. Dazzling knife skills combined with an equally dazzling ability to julienne the English language made the show a true gem. His newer series are a bit more subduded but do a great job showcasing his vast knowledge rather than stage presence.

Caught a doc on artist/designer Rex Ray on PBS last night (produced by a Denverite so might have been local-only). Interesting story mostly for his practical approach to making and selling art. His hybrid fine art/graphic design style is just as at home in galleries as it is on take home work to be sold in gallery gift shops. Smart. Aired on the last day of his solo show at the MCA Denver.

Really solid styling in this movie. Re-watch just for the consistent look Forrest keeps from leg brace days to telling bench stories. Also reminded me of the amount of CG work that was added to the film (looks dated now) but I think blazed the trail of thinking for its integration into all genres.
